How We Calculate This

Simple rules, not AI guesswork
AlexSaves uses fixed benchmarks from Australian energy authorities — no machine learning, no black box.

What we ask and why

  • Home type — apartments use less base load than detached houses

  • People in household — hot water and base load scale with occupants

  • Solar panels — we estimate offset from a typical 6.6kW system at 33% self-consumption

  • Hot water system — electric resistive is the highest cost; heat pump is significantly cheaper

  • Daily AC use — mapped to kWh bands from DCCEEW benchmarks

How we estimate your annual cost
We add hot water kWh + AC kWh + base load kWh, subtract any solar offset, then multiply by the AEMC 2024 national average tariff ($0.32/kWh). The full breakdown is shown in your results under "How we calculated this."

How we identify your cost culprits
Each appliance category is compared against your total spend. The top 3 by dollar value are flagged as culprits.
